Pure Distilling Copper Pot Condenser and Alembic Dome
Pot Condenser
Allows flavour from the wash to be passed through into the distillate for craft beverages.
A Pot Condenser is used when you want the flavour of the wash to come through into the distillate. For instance, if you ferment fruit or grains, it will allow some of that flavour to enter your distillate allowing you to create craft beverages. If you use a reflux condenser, such as the Pure Distilling Reflux Condenser, you would just end up with pure, unflavoured distillate.
The alembic dome, while gorgeous looking does serve a purpose. The surface area and shape allow vapour to condense and creates a passive reflux on the dome itself, this increases the purity of the distillate. The shape of an alembic dome also changes the flavour of the distillate by adding extra space for the vapours to expand, this allows different flavours to be more easily identified throughout the run. Copper is highly reactive with sulfur-containing compounds, such as hydrogen sulfide, which are often present in the vapour during distillation. When the vapour comes into contact with the copper surface, a chemical reaction occurs, forming copper sulfide, which then adheres to the copper surface or falls back into the pot as an inert compound.
