Isinglass, a fining agent derived from the swim bladders of fish, is widely used in homebrewing to clarify beer by removing suspended particles and yeast cells. When added to the fermenter, isinglass forms a gelatinous matrix that binds with the particulates, causing them to settle at the bottom of the vessel. To use isinglass, dissolve the recommended amount in cold water and add it to your beer after primary fermentation has completed, typically during the secondary fermentation stage. Allow the beer to sit undisturbed for a few days to a week, during which the isinglass will work its magic, resulting in a clear, bright beer with improved visual appeal and enhanced flavor stability.
