Vintners Harvest Tannin 25g
Adds a dry character to red wines.
Tannin powder from chestnut origin. Used to add flavour, character and astringency to wine. Use 5g of tannin to 100L of wine before tasting. Add 5g increments until desired taste is achieved.
Tannin in wine is responsible for the drying sensation you get while enjoying a glass of red that is still relatively sweet, be aware adding more tannin can exacerbate this effect. Younger red wines are generally lower in tannins; this is one of the reasons mature wines are perceived as smoother and more mellowed out.
Some styles of wine benefit from higher tannin levels, if you're making a; shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon or Bordeaux then, the addition of tannin can help build an authentic tasting character.
Wines higher in tannin tend to benefit longer aging times as the tannins break down and assist in the maturation pathway.
