This calculator uses two pieces of information; original gravity and final gravity. These can be measured using a hydrometer.The original gravity is measured at the start of fermentation and indicates how much sugar is present in the wort. The final gravity reading is taken after fermentation is complete. You can use a hydrometer to test the specific gravity of your beer and ensure the gravity is stable. Once the reading stabilises fermentation is complete and you can then use this reading in the calculator. Simply enter your original and final gravity and click calculate and the calculator will spit out the ABV (%) of your fermented beverage.
