Liquorice Root
Acts as a natural sweetener while adding light woody notes.
Liquorice root was originally used to add natural sweetness to gins as it contains the compound glycyrrhizin, which is 30 - 50 times sweeter than sugar. The sweetness provided by liquorice root is different to sugar in that it's longer lasting, has a faster onset and a more intense character. While providing sweetness liquorice root also adds woody and herbaceous flavours with notes of hay and wood.
Dosage:
To get a mild flavour and to assist in bringing together the gin flavours we recommend using between 1 - 3 grams per litre.
Storage:
Our Liquorice Root is packed into resealable foil bags to eliminate UV damage and so you can reseal these bags after opening. Store in a cool, dry place.
